This Easy Apple Crisp Recipe designed to utilize the apples that have gone a little soft. We thinly slice the sweet apples and mix them with warm spices. With a nod to the classic crips, we make our tasty crumble topping with gluten-free old-fashioned oats, arrowroot powder, and sliced almonds, boasting a perfect balance of crunch and tenderness.

Apple Filling:
- 3 - 4 small honeycrisp apples shaved
- ¼ cup coconut sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder
- 2 tablespoons currants or raisins
- ½ tablespoon avocado oil or coconut oil
Crumble Topping:
- ½ cup old-fashioned oats - we use gluten-free
- ¼ cup whole wheat pastry flour sub any type of flour, even almond flour
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ cup slivered almonds
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ cup avocado oil or coconut oil
Preheat oven to 375˚ F
Thoroughly clean and dry the apples. Slice them thinly using a mandoline, cheese grater slicer side, or a vegetable peeler. Don't worry about removing the skin.
Place the shaved apple pieces in a medium-sized bowl. Add coconut sugar, cinnamon, fine sea salt, arrowroot powder, currants or raisins, and ½ tablespoon of avocado oil or coconut oil. Toss the apple mixture until well combined. Transfer the mixture to a small oiled baking dish.
In the same bowl used for the apples, combine old-fashioned oats, whole wheat pastry flour, coconut sugar, fine sea salt, slivered almonds, cinnamon, and ¼ cup of avocado oil or coconut oil. Mix until the oil is well incorporated into the dry ingredients. Pour the crumble mixture evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
Place the baking dish in the oven preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes until the top turns golden brown and the apples soften. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.
